I have been wanting to make a headboard for years. It wasn’t until we got a king sized bed, that I realized I HAD to put my ass in gear and get one. The bed looked so stupid without something on the wall!
So off I went on that weeks “mission”.
The first stop was Home Depot to buy a big ole sheet o plywood. I quickly learned that I bought one too thick, but other than weighing a tonne, it still did the trick.
The next mission was looking for fabric to cover it. I looked all over the place for a nice chocolate brown color, with a bit of design to it (ie: stripes or squares or some kind of design element). I struck out at all the fabric stores, but while wandering around Wal Mart, I found exactly what I was looking for!
Who cares if it happened to be a ginormous size table cloth?
No judging!
So I brought my newly purchased table cloth home, cut the plywood down to size, covered it with a couple layers of cotton baton and then my beautiful chocolate inspired "fabric". Then I happily went staple crazy!
Of course, because Santa failed to bring me my Easy Button last year, halfway through the production, the staple gun died, so it was back to Home Depot to purchase another.
The end result though…quite stunning I think!
I love the size that I decided to go with too. I made it large (it is resting on the floor now) so that when we purchase our house (SPRING TIME!!) we can hang it a few feet up and really give some height to our room.
Plus, since its only a table cloth (NO JUDGING!!) and a few staples, I can switch it out at any time to a different theme.
What do you think?
Cost: around 100 bones…Plywood, fabric and cotton to add some cranial comforts. (Well OK, due to lack of easy button- add in a replacement staple gun expedition too)
Time to make: no more than an hour. I got into a good groove and fired it off rather quickly.
Cheers!
Great! I love it!
