Sparkle and Bling

And I mean the Christmas kind.

My dad has perfected the art of the outside Christmas light display. And by perfected, I mean that the family has joked for years that our house was a homing beacon for Santa and his reindeer. As soon as you turn the corner onto the street where I grew up, all that hits you is a wall of light…well, a house of light. A fluorescent glow that sparkles up the whole block.

It’s a spectacle to make you stop and gasp as you stare at the hundreds of twinkling lights.  And each year it just gets better and better. (He may have even rewired the outside electrical system so as to allow more plug-ins JUST for Christmas lights.)

So my sparkle and bling? Well I’m kind of in a frump. My dad’s enthusiasm for his lights may have rubbed off on me, and each year I too, try and outdo the previous year with my display.

But I may have procrastinated a bit too long this year and now find that I have most of the Christmas lights up on the outside of house but have not been able to turn them on to fully enjoy the Christmas splendour.

The reason: getting up the ladder to hang them by myself is not such a wise idea for an accident-prone individual such as myself.

So for now, I’ll just have to satisfy my Christmas light fix with staring at the Christmas tree.

Well at least until I haul my Weebo outside after work one night, boldly hold the ladder, and send him up it with the power stapler ;)

Cheers!
