Christmas Crafting Show and Tell #2

Another genius idea! Another “why didn’t I think of that?” to myself.

I made these for my sisters for Christmas. Inspiration is all over the internet on how to make these great displays: DIY Cake stands.

Not to tell all my secrets, but these puppies cost under $10 to make. Once I figured it out, they are quite easy, though there was much swearing in the beginning.

The lesson I learned: don’t be so cheap and spend the extra 5 bucks on better paint.

When it comes to paint, I’m kinda not so knowledgeable. So I bought cheap acrylic paint to paint on glass. It worked, but I probably had to put 7 coats on each piece and then it chipped quite easy.

But they look great and they were a huge hit!

How To:

From the Dollar Store, purchase any variety of dishes you would like. I chose one dinner plate for the bottoms and two sandwich plates for the upper two tiers. Water goblets were my “pedestals” of choice, though I have seen some really neat ones made with candle holders.

Paint each piece whichever color suits your fancy. Repeat and repeat if necessary (aka: cheap paint) ;)

Maybe because of the paint I chose, I had to seal each piece. I did a bit of snooping at Michaels and found ModgePodge makes a sealer, so that was my choice.

Seal it with a coat or two.

I used a silicone based adhesive to glue them together.

Wam! Bam! And a thank you mam!

i sure learned from the experience but can’t wait to make myself one!
Cheers!
