A post back…when I mentioned being a little upset with my hubby last summer…and maybe asking him to move all the rock so that I could investigate the dirt? Well, those rocks sat there all winter…in a big ‘ol pile, just waiting for spring and a mission.
This weekend? They moved! And I even moved them myself! Hehe.
But lets back up a bit…I’m jumping ahead.
All winter I read and researched all kinds of container gardening and different ways to make and model a garden frame. Originally, I had in mind to head down to Home Depot, purchase all the lumber and make my own frames. (I’m kinda handy like that and enjoy playing with my husbands power tools.)
But one day a few weeks past, while wandering through Canadian Tire, I discovered a reasonable Gardening kit. All the pieces there, assemble…fill and batta-bang! You gots a garden!
So I went back to hubby and we discussed it. For the price of the number of pre-made frames I would need, it would probably cost the same (if not less) for lumber. And the kits are weather resistant already, no tools required…SIGN ME UP!
This weekend was the first beautiful day of spring. So puppy and I headed out to the yard to play at making a garden.
The first step obviously was heading to CT and buying the required
number of frames. I started with just thinking I wanted three. Then that
rapidly changed to “I want five”…now that I’m finished this step…I defiantly need six
;)
The best part of all though is was that they were on sale this weekend! So I saved $12.50 on each one! WOot WOOt! Gotta love a sale!
Anyhoo, frames in hand, the next step was to tackle the rocks…and let me just say for the record: it was a mighty intimidating pile. I injured myself a few years ago and still suffer from the pain, so even the thought of throwing rocks made my wrists pound. But I was determined! (Plus the cold beer reward helped motivate me)
The rocks were all piled at one end of the garden. I started by laying all new landscaping fabric down. I moved and spread most of the pile to cover the new fabric. Then the tough part of relocating the leftovers that Weebo hadn’t moved, as I had to get under them to replace that fabric too. (I may have stopped for two or three reward-al cold beers during the rock re-location process.) But I eventually got it all replaced and spread.
The frames were a breeze to assemble and puppy and I (well, I) placed them in location, hammered the little peggy-feet holder-downers a few times and I now have five (soon to be six) wonderful little garden boxes! 3 ½ x 3 ½ feet.
Cheers!
Nice work lady! looks great and I can't wait to see what you grow, and also eat :)
