Spring Fever

I've got it...I'm so ready for winter to be over. Spring fever has arrived!
So to help me see the light at the end of winters tunnel, and I was on such a roll from Valentine's Day, I figured that I would make sure that the seasonal crafty bug kept going. I got in my studio last night and did up a "quick"  craft.

I originally saw the concept on Pinterest and figured it couldn't be too difficult.  A few alterations from the original and wam-bam-thankyou-mam!

Well, it ended up being a little more challenging than I thought. Half of that being my OCD and hot glue.
I wanted to do the Letter S for spring. We have a fantastic mantle in the family room that I like to decorate for the season and I thought that it would look great there.

Step one: I cut out two Letter S's. The original concept said to use Dixie cups in-between the two letters. I didn't have any on hand but I did find a paper towel tube that I cut into 4 2" pieces.

Step 2: Cover the letters. I just cut mine out on medium weight cardboard and then covered it  with a pretty scrapbook paper.

Step 3: Cut out 3-4 strips of cardboard and cover with scrapbook paper. These will be your edges.
Don't brain fart like I did though and make sure that your strips are as wide as the paper towel tubes you cut. I may have had a glass of wine...or two...When I cut my strips I did them to 1 1/2"...my tubes were cut into 2" pieces...Doh! Needless to say I did this step twice.

My helper...had to show this. This is where he hangs when we play in the studio. LOL never ceases to amaze me the places he fits himself. Makes things interesting though once I sit down at my desk...making sure not to roll over toes and tail!

Anyhoo...Step 4: Glue the paper towel tubes onto the inside of one letter. Place the second letter on top and glue down. Make sure they line up as this could be problematic when you put the edge strips on.

Step 5: Attach the inside edging strips. This part is what I found to be the most challenging part of the whole craft. I used my glue gun and you know how messy that can get. I made it work though but had to walk away for the night and plot how I was going to cover up my mess. Ribbon and string did the trick and in the end I think that it turned out pretty friken cute!

For the longest time with some of my crafts I thought that I started to over do it a bit with accessorizing and doo-dadding, so like the Love Day blocks, I kept the embellishments simple.

Cheers!
