Little Old Men

Book Review: The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Dissapeared

By Jonas Jonasson

Pee-your-panties-a-wee-bit funny. Insightful. Historical. Witty. A truly fun read.

This is the kooky story of a (yup) One Hundred year old man, who on this momentous birthday, decides he is going to escape from the nursing home he is living in. All triggered by a “misplaced” suitcase, what follows is a series of unfortunate (and very clever) events, which somehow ends up working out in the end.

Throughout the telling of these shinanigans, we get another story: the story of the mischievous and clever Allan Karlsson and his amazing life.

To ask what he did during his one hundred years is silly. Better to ask what didn't he do, and who didn't he meet? I only wish that my history trivia was a bit better so that I knew all the stories of the events that he witnessed/inadvertently participated in, over his one hundred years.

Others have described Jonasson’s character Allan, as a “Forest Gump”, and I can truly understand this description of him! The author has created such a fun character that I found it impossible not to fall in love with Allan and his fumbles.

This is fantastic (and quick) read. Two thumbs up!

Cheers!
