Bananas and liver...yup. That is what the house smells like right now. Yummy sounding, isn't it?
I had a fantastic time with my pint sized date last night, but as usually happens with toddlers...it was an early morning.
The bonus of this is how much I managed to accomplish today!
Overall, not a long list of things, but I mass cooked two things that have been on the to-do list for a while: banana chocolate chip muffins and dog food!
I had an amazing visit this morning with my friends and even got so lucky as to get breakfast too! I came home, grabbed the shopping list and ran over to the grocery store for supplies.
I love my mini muffins for breakfast so I grabbed my black bananas from the freezer (side note: pretty much the only reason I buy bananas is so they can ripen on the counter and then get thrown in the freezer until its baking time!)
I made just about a dozen-dozen muffins...following me?...aka tonnes! And I even made them slightly healthy with less chocolate chips than normal and whole wheat flower...yay me!
And then it was onto dog food.
We feed Cassius raw...as in raw meat. Its kinda nasty looking but kibble wasn't working and I am a huge supporter of raw food for dogs...(I wont get going now, but will post about my opinions on that at a later date.)
"In the wild" dogs don't eat a whole lot of vegetables, but having a bit of roughage in his diet does help to keep his guts in working order. Plus, he needs the organ meat that isn't in the chicken raw food product that we buy.
We like to give him "vegetable treats" a few times a week. Its a bit of work, but we have found that he hates the vegetables when it is mixed in with the meat so this works great!
So what do I put in his vegetables? For the ginormous pot down below, liver is the starting point. And probably the nastiest for me. I took about 4 lbs of liver and threw it in the food processor. I pureed the heck out of it and then tossed in a pot to cook. It will crumble and brown just like hamburger. Once cooked, I threw in two packs of frozen spinach.
With 4 lbs of liver cooked, the nasty part is done, and I now have another container of liver/spinach to use next time, which is half the work.
The vegetables today were a good combo. Each time I make his vegetables, I have been adding more variety to it to get him used to them. Today was: carrots, peas, apple, broccoli and canned green beans. I steamed those in the big pot with enough water to barley cover and a can of chicken broth, and then threw them into the food processor to break them down. I then added the liver/spinach mix to the vegetables, with a good 1/2 cup of peanut butter that I heated up in the microwave.
He loves his veggie treat and it is a great alternative to store bought crap treats that you can give your dogs. They are also great if you put the mixture into an ice cube tray and give them as treats on a hot summer day!

Cheers!
