There is definitely never a dull moment in the house lately!
As we have spent that last two and a bit years training and loving our adorable fur baby-boy, we knew that we would have a few challenges welcoming a new puppy into the house.
A quick back story : For Cassius' mom, his litter was her first. The breeder told us that she accidentally laid on the pups and killed them all except for him (SAD!). He was taken from mom at that point and bottle fed until he was weaned. Thus, he never grew up with a pack. He never learned to "share" or have to fight for his food with other pups. We think that this is where is "food issues" come from. Plus the fact that he has been the only dog in the house, and has never had to share anything since.
The top two issues with him? Food aggression (only with other dogs) and a new(er) developed dominance over his teddies (again, with other dogs) We knew that this would be something that we would have to work with him on.
So of course, day one of bringing new puppy home, what do we stupid parents forget to do? Put away all the teddies! Cassius snapped on her, there was a bite, there were squeals....and there was a serious "conversation" had with big brother and the parents!
It took about 20 minutes for him to go over and say "sorry" and about another half hour for her to finally warm up to him again...now they are best buds!
Weebo thinks that the next "incident", a week later, was more of her flinching and head butting him in the tooth, as there was only the one mark. A small cut right on the top of her forehead.
We didn't really think too much of it. Poor puppied her and then they were off being besties again...until I was sitting there looking at her a few days later and watching the "lump" almost grow before my eyes.
Her little lump had swelled to almost the size of a ping pong ball overnight.
So off to the Pet ER we went, where our poor beautiful fur baby got her first hair cut!
134/365
134 1/2 /365
I KNOW!!
They had to lance it and drain the yuk out, and then another round of dog antibiotics. (I swear I am going to start investing in K9 antibiotics!).
Happy to report, she is almost totally mended. The lump be gone and the hair is growing back in nicely.
I give her another two weeks and you wont even have know it happened.
I really hope that this is that last incident for a while!
Cheers!~
