Hocus Pocus

“Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.”
- From Macbeth by William Shakespeare

I went off to the local thrift store last night in search of old jars (preferably with cork tops) to make my latest Halloween craft. I made out like a bandit and found seven of them. Woot woot!!

I then came home and happily hit up my craft room (side note: I will have to take pictures of my craft room someday to show you what we inherited when we moved in here...as soon as I saw it I knew it would be the perfect play room for myself. It was obviously a little girls room prior to our taking ownership. Its bright pink... I LOVE IT!)

So I took before and afters of my "magic potion" jars. I forgot to add #7 to the before picture so it randomly appears in there.
The “before” (2nd side note: not taken in said play room...taken in the bland laundry room ;)
And proud as a pumpkin, the after:
A while ago I had randomly purchased some mini viles with little cork tops, cuz everything is soooo much cuter when it’s miniaturized ;), and I'm so glad that I have finally been able to use them.
I thought that I would take close ups of them, one by one, to get some of the smaller details. Funny enough, most of the bling I used were deconstructed (tacky) necklaces that I found at the Greatest Store On Earth, Dollarramma!
So how did I color the glass? Well I was thrilled to death to finally learn how to use the Adirondack Ink that I bought on a whim one day. All I did was use the little felt pads that are sold alongside the ink at Michaels, put a few drops of the ink on the pad, and smear. I did about two coats on the glass, though I'm not sure how much the second coat added, seemed like it just smeared it around some more. But the final result was perfect! The only one that I wasn’t so happy about was the charcoal color... I was hoping that it would be a bit bolder but I worked with it, and the end result, though not as dark as I wanted, turned out quite well I think.
I think I see a new arrangement of coloured glass popping up around the house in the near future, in any and all colors!
Cheers!

  1. hey crafty lady! I really like the potion bottles, they turned out awesome! Did you print your own labels, or did you find them online?
