Craft Catch Up

I wanted to do a couple show-n-tells with the few crafts I was able to motivate myself to do over the last couple of months.

Starting off with Thanksgiving. It was Turkey Lurkey madness. (I even managed to convince Weebo to help me assembly line them.) With an expected 13 people for dinner, it was mass-production for seating place-cards Thanksgiving style.

I wish that I could take the credit for imagining the idea up, but all the credit goes to Tim Holtz and his brilliance.

I think that they turned out awesome and they were a hit at the dinner table too.

I didn’t take the picture after I put the names one. That was done with unfolding part of a large paper clip and gluing it onto the back of the turkey. The name tag was made from the ticket strip Sizzix die cut.

Then there is the Christmas gift idea to dad.

As I mentioned, I found the idea on Pinterest and thought: I can so make that.

So I did.

This is a picture of theirs:

And here is my take on them:

The only things I wish that I had done differently was to have cut a few inches off the length of the head/face portion, and that I had been able to find a fatter spindle.

The project included a trip to Home Depot for supplies, a raid of my moms button collection, some imagination and lots of spray paint. The most time consuming part was the painting of the spindles, as it took a good number of coats to cover them completely. The hats were made out of fence post toppers and the spindles for the body. The biggest challenge of the whole craft was finding something for the little carrot noses. Crazy enough, I used caulking-gun caps that mom had laying around. I covered them in masking tape to give them some texture and then painted them carrot orange.

I made three for dad and then one for a girl friend of mine…I think I may have to create an army of them to adorn our front lawn next Christmas.

Cheers!
