Love Is In The Air

I got my groove back! I have been happily geeking out in my craft room for the last week and a half. WOoHoO!

Meemaw and I have had a friendly “Who can out-craft the other” competition for a few years now, so I made sure to actually get my poop in a group and get on it. I missed both Halloween and Christmas this year, so I had to make sure that I pulled out a good one for Love Day!

(And of course you know that Weebo always gets a little Laura-crafted goodness for the holidays! He is my favorite person to craft for!)

So what did I make?

Well the first part were these adorable little mailboxes that I saw on Pinterest. I knew I just had to make one for Valentine's Day.

They are a little cheesy but still stupid cute and perfect for a little vignette at the front door. I printed a Love Day poster and framed it to place beside the mailbox and I think that it just adds a little extra love when you walk in the house!

The mailbox was fun to make, but the blocks are what it’s all about.

Of course I made one for Weebo, using our beautiful wedding pictures. For Meemaw, I made one in memory of her wonderful dog, who passed away last year.

Both are similar, but they are both unique.

For Weebo’s, I used the 4x4 blocks from Michael's. It has cleaner edges, is a bit fussier, and plays into more of a “polished” look to reflect the wedding photos.
I tried to keep it simple and not clutter it up with too many doodads.

For Meemaws’, I hacked down a 4x4 fence post into 4x4 cubes, sanded down the rough edges a bit and then painted them up. I like the way this one turned out because it’s not perfect. The pictures are of puppy and I think that the “roughness” of the posts give them a bit more character.

I saw this project and was hoping to try a photo transfer technique that I have been reading about online. You use a gel medium to transfer photos onto wood. But when I was at Michael's, I forgot all about picking it up, so I decided to go with just gluing the pictures on.

I am really excited to try that technique out though, and as soon as I do, I will let you know whether it was a fail or a pass ;)
Cheers!
