Hostess with the Most-ess

I love playing hostess. LOVE IT!

The only issue that has popped up in the past, aka our housewarming party, is that I  erm…a-hem…“indulge” a bit and then forget to do hostess-y things…like feed our guests! But that’s why the sober husband is co-host ;)

Going to and redeem myself this weekend! And don’t get me wrong, I will be indulging, just making sure dinner is good to go before I get too many glasses in.

We are having my family and some very good family friends over on Saturday for the Second Annual Festivus Get Together, and I’m hoping that it will be a great night all around.

The menu I’m preparing started out with a bunch of new recipes that caught my eye. “They” say that’s rule #1 though…you’re not supposed to try new recipes for while hostessing. But what can I say, I like to live on the edge ;)

I think I was going to attempt 4 new appies total, but as I looked it some more, I decided to simplify it a bit. I’m still totally using new recipes though, oh hells ya!

For appies I’m going to make two different types of Brie cheese. I have made the first one before, a wonderful Baked Brie topped with roasted garlic, sundried tomatoes and roasted pine nuts. This one I will serve with the Rosemary Raincoast Crips recipe that I found (you can get the recipe here, or on the original website that I discovered here)

The second Brie recipe is a new one, but it sounds so simple there’s no way that I can possibly mess it up. Only 4 ingredients: molasses, balsamic vinegar, butter and almonds.

Ill try it out this weekend and if it’s a keeper, I will post it to share!

I plan on doing two more appies, but admit that I will be cheating and using the help of The Grocery Store ;) Mini Quiche and one other that I am sure will catch my eye at the store tonight.

Dinner will be chile. Can’t go wrong with chile!

We have a guest coming on Saturday who can only eat Gluten free, so I found one recipe on-line and I will give that a try. The second chile I’m making a friends MIL actually made a few weeks back for her birthday and it was to DIE for! I can’t wait to try it!

My mom’s chile is defiantly one of those home cooked-always-delicious-can’t go wrong-tried and true kinda dishes, but I wanted something different this time so we will see if I have found two new keepers to the recipes box!

Stay warm!
Cheers!
